Today I am pleased to share a picture book perfect for little ones starting school. Little Rabbit Goes to School (©2004) by Harry Horse is an absolute delight.
It’s Little Rabbit’s first day of school and he decides to bring along his favorite wooden toy, Charlie Horse, against his mother’s advice. Unfortunately, Charlie Horse causes all manner of mischief at school, from disrupting story time to “jumping” into a bowl of cake batter. Charlie Horse even leads Little Rabbit away from his classmates on a nature walk and they get lost in the woods (but are quickly found). The next day, Little Rabbit is excited to return to school, but he decides that perhaps Charlie Horse should stay home after all.
This book is full of humor and heart. The warm, expressive artwork is reminiscent of classics like Winnie the Pooh and Peter Rabbit. The illustrations are engaging and make it easy for children to follow the story.
I recommend this charming book for ages 3-5.
