YA Favorite: Before I Fall

Samantha Kingston thinks she has a pretty perfect life. She and her best friends Lindsay, Ally, and Elody are four of the most popular girls in school and she’s dating the hottest guy around. But when a Friday night spent partying ends in a fatal car wreck, Sam wakes up the next morning only to discover that it’s Friday – again. Unable at first to understand why she’s being forced to live her last day over and over, Sam soon starts to put the pieces together, realizing that all of her actions, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem to her, affect the lives of others in ways that Sam never could’ve imagined.

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver was a riveting read from start to finish. It starts off a little reminiscent of Mean Girls, but these characters, Sam in particular, are given so much more depth. And although this Groundhog Day type of story has been done before, Oliver executes it beautifully. Before I Fall is Lauren Oliver’s first novel and is a fantastic stand-alone that gets more intriguing the more you read. I recommend this book for ages 14 and up.
