Setting the Turkeys Free

Who didn’t love making hand turkeys as a kid? Just in time for Thanksgiving, here’s a great book and art project idea for the kids!

Setting the Turkeys Free (©2004) by W. Nikola-Lisa and Ken Wilson-Max is an inventive story that is fun to read aloud. A little boy uses paint, sequins, sparkles and more to create beautiful hand turkeys. Soon the turkeys take on a life of their own in this imaginative and entertaining tale.

This book makes the perfect precursor to an afternoon spent making your own hand turkeys!

To make turkeys like the ones in this book, you will need:

Paper
Washable paint
Toothpicks
Sequins
Feathers
Glitter
Popsicle sticks
Glue
Paper plates

Tape large sheets of paper to a table, pour a little of each paint color into each paper plate, and start making turkeys! I recommend Setting the Turkeys Free for ages 2-7.
