Stick Man!

“Stick Man lives in the family tree, with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three.”

StickManStick Man, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, is an unconventional Christmas story with an unconventional protagonist.

One day, while out for a morning jog, Stick Man is snatched up by dog who mistakes him for a fetch toy. After escaping the dog, Stick Man tries to return home to his family tree, but a series of obstacles take him further and further away. As Christmas draws near, Stick Man worries that he might not make it back in time to spend the holiday with his family. Just when all hope seems lost, Stick Man meets an unlikely friend who offers to help him get home.

I am a huge fan of Julia Donaldson’s books The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom (both of which were also illustrated by Axel Scheffler) and this book did not disappoint. This story is charming and original, and full of fun, repetitive rhymes that kids will love. The vibrant illustrations are an absolute treat.

I recommend this book for kids ages 4+.

  1. This is a brilliant book and the artwork is lovely, I use to have to read it over and over to my cousin, it was his favourite.
