Scanimation: Books in Motion!

The Scanimation books by Rufus Butler Seder are some of my favorite interactive books for kids. When you open up one of these sturdy board books, the picture on the inside actually move! Each turn of the page reveals a new moving picture, and the simple text is perfect for emerging readers.

Let’s take a closer look at all the books in the Scanimation series:

GallopGallop! (©2007)

Can you gallop like a horse? Can you strut like a rooster? 8 different animals in motion will delight even the youngest book lovers.

SwingSwing! (©2008)

This book is all about kids in motion: running, riding bikes, and playing sports!

WaddleWaddle! (©2009)

This installment brings more animals in motion – with added bursts of color! Kids will want to join in on the fun, hopping like frogs and stomping like elephants.

In addition to the original Scanimation books, there are fabulous movie-inspired books perfect for gift-giving!

Star WarsStar Wars (©2010)

This fun book features scenes from all six Star Wars films (but with emphasis on the original trilogy). There are character quotes on each corresponding page to engage older fans.

Wizard of Oz Scanimation BookThe Wizard of Oz (©2011)

Featuring iconic movie scenes with corresponding quotes, Wizard of Oz fans young and old will be delighted. The glittery, red cover – a nod to the ruby slippers – gives this book a little something extra.

I recommend Scanimation books for all ages! They provide tons of interactive fun – no batteries required!

  1. I love these books, too. I first saw one at the library where I work. I spent quite a while trying to figure out how it moved. 🙂 I’ll have to find the Wizard of Oz book, looks fun!

  2. The books look fun. I’m going check them out.
