A Bookish Baby Shower

When I first found out that I was pregnant, I knew that I wanted my good friend Allie to throw my baby shower. When Allie suggested that the shower have a children’s book theme, I knew right away that it was the perfect choice! I hope that by sharing these pictures I can inspire you to throw a children’s book themed party of your own. Not planning a baby shower any time soon? This theme would also be great for a child’s birthday party!

The Food

For me, the most important part of any party is always the food! Allie and I had fun coming up with a spread inspired by some of my favorite children’s books.

Peter Rabbit Garden VeggiesA party staple – the crudites – became Peter Rabbit’s Garden Veggies.

Stinky Cheese Man Cheese PlatterWe used a gingerbread man shaped cookie cutter to turn plain cheese into Stinky Cheese Men!

Green Eggs and HamSimple deviled eggs with green-tinted filling and a bacon garnish were dubbed “Green Eggs and Ham.”

Madeline Baked BrieBaked brie – inspired by Madeline.

Strega Nona Pasta SaladAllie whipped up a big batch of crowd-pleasing pasta salad and gave the credit to Strega Nona.

Curious George Banana BreadEveryone gobbled up Curious George’s Banana Bread!

Thing 1&2 CupcakesShowstopping desserts complete the table!

Hungry Caterpillar Cake Pops (Closeup)Whimsical cupcakes and cake pops taste as good as they look!

Fizzy Lifting DrinksDon’t forget the drinks! We had Wonka’s Fizzy Lifting Drinks…

Pinkalicious Pink Lemonade…and Pinkalicious pink lemonade!

The Decorations

We kept the decorations simple with paper banners, handmade mini book garlands, and balloons.

The Games

Party GamesIn addition to some more interactive party games, we had these adorable Very Hungry Caterpillar themed cards for guests to fill out.

Guests were encouraged to bring a copy of the favorite children’s book for the baby instead of a card. Our little one has a good start on her own library, and she’s not even here yet!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I read the same book over and over out loud during my pregnancy – I like to think that contributed to my daughter’s love of books (Moms have to take credit where they can). πŸ™‚ What a fantastic baby shower. You have a great friend to pull this off. I can’t even pick which picture I like the best – they are all fantastic. I hope your pregnancy is going well!

    • I’m due in about a week and a half, so we’ve reached the home stretch! I like the idea of reading to baby before he or she is even born! It never even crossed my mind, but I’ll try to remember it for my next one. πŸ˜‰
