Stirring Up Fun with Food

Today I am so excited to share my review of the brand-new cookbook, Stirring Up Fun with Food (©2017) by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Gia Russo.

The recipes and ideas in this book take a simple and healthy approach to food crafting, which Sarah Michelle defines as, “taking basic food preparation and elevating it to a level that is both fun and creative.”

I’ve always loved entertaining and preparing delightful themed treats for my friends and family. But I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that sometimes attempting to complete a twenty-step Pinterest recipe can be a “Pinterest Fail” waiting to happen. Gellar and Russo aim to solve this problem by offering over 100 easy recipes with very few steps and ingredients that are as pretty as they are delicious.

The book is divided up by month, with recipes for all the major holidays, as well as plenty of fun food ideas for a variety of other occasions. The February chapter puts a healthy twist on a Super Bowl Sunday menu. In May, you can celebrate Star Wars Day with lightsaber snack mix and Chewbacca cookies. The September chapter features inventive lunchbox treats and hearty, comfort food dinners.

The book has a good variety of sweet and savory recipes, including breakfasts (like quiche cupcakes and pancake muffins), lunches, dinners (we loved the meatloaf muffins and turkey pot pies), appetizers, snacks, and desserts (the apple pie pops and s’mores parfait are to-die-for).

These family-friendly recipes are the perfect combination of wholesome and delicious. These Pinterest-worthy recipes are whimsical enough for a special occasion, but simple enough for a beginner. While these inventive recipes will definitely appeal to kids, you don’t have to be a kid – or even have kids – to enjoy this book! I highly recommend Stirring Up Fun with Food for all home cooks, from beginner to advanced, as well as anyone who loves to entertain!
