My family loves Halloween, but my toddler and kindergartener don’t like anything too scary. Most popular Halloween movies (think The Nightmare Before Christmas) aren’t well suited to very small children or ones who are easily frightened. So, with that in mind, I’ve searched high and low for the best non-scary Halloween movies that even the littlest members of the family can enjoy! What is your favorite Halloween movie? I grew up in the 90s, so I love Halloweentown!
Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and their pals are off on an exciting road trip that takes a spooky turn when they make a detour to a roadside motel. When Mr. Potato Head disappears, his friends must unravel a frightening mystery before they suffer the same fate. This feature boasts movie-quality animation and appearances from the entire original voice cast. Runtime: 22 minutes
This delightful animated short is based on the picture book of the same name. Much to the chagrin of her cat, and friendly witch allows a dog, a bird, and frog a ride on her broom after they help her retrieve lost items. My whole family loved this one! Runtime: 27 minutes
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
This classic has stood the test of time for a reason. If you love Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang as much as we do, then this one is a must. Runtime: 25 minutes
Curious George: A Halloween Boo-Fest (2013)
George and his friends have a spook-tacular Halloween adventure! My kids both loved this one (though, personally, I prefer A Very Monkey Christmas). Runtime: 58 minutes
Double, Double, Toil and Trouble (1993)
7-year-old twins must outwit their wicked aunt to save their family’s home in this direct-to-video classic. Runtime: 96 minutes
In this funny story of a monsters-only resort hotel, the monsters are the protagonists, which undercuts any spookiness. Runtime: 91 minutes
Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005)
Lumpy the heffalump, Roo, and the rest of their friends have a Halloween adventure in the Hundred Acre Wood. Runtime: 66 minutes
